Note from the Assistant Editor:

"Our great drama is this: Man does not have confidence in God... And all our spiritual life consists precisely in a long process of re-education, with a view to regaining that lost confidence."  See "Accepting the Lord's Invitation."

"Should Syria's Christian refugees be favoured?"  For a host of reasons, prominent among them the extreme vulnerability of Christian refugees, the answer is emphatically yes they should.  Fr. Raymond J. de Souza explains.

We have reprinted "How to Defeat Religious Violence," a selection from Not in God's Name: Confronting Religious Violence by Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks.  He talks about how Islamic State attacks have caught the western world by surprise — "because of a blind spot in the secular mind: the inability to see the elemental, world-shaking power of religion when hijacked by politics."

Then, Thomas Lickona explains the importance of developing intellectual character in the young and how most effectively to do that.  See "Critical Thinking: How to Teach It?."

In "Why Not Natural Sex?" George Sim Johnston gives an explanation of the morality behind Natural Family Planning.

Finally, for anyone who has been perplexed by the stream of ambiguities coming out of the Holy See recently, the Erasmus address by Ross Douthat, "The Crisis of Conservative Catholicism," (an offsite video) is one man's vision of what is going on in the Church. - Meaghen Hale
