Note from the Managing Editor |
As I prepared our newsletter for this week, I found a theme. Many of our editorials deal with turmoil within the Church (problematic councils, synods, publications) and the world (abortion, transgenderism, euthanasia, contraception).
Our new resources are exactly that—resources to help you understand, prepare for, and deal with these problems.
In "Is a Plurality of Religions Willed by God?", Eric Sammons explains the problem with an "interreligious declaration" that Pope Francis endorsed on September 15, 2022.
David W. Fagerberg opens our eyes to a common idolatry—autolatry, the worship of self—that "can go merrily hand-in-hand with religiosity because self-will and self-love camouflages itself even in acts of religion and acts of virtue." See "Our (Not So) Secret Idolatry."
In "Secret Tentative Intimation," Jennifer Bryson, a former interrogator at Guantanamo Bay, stresses the importance of developing our consciences before the moment of testing—which is often "in confusing situations, amid conflicting duties, caught off guard, during depression, under the pressure of a threat."
And finally, John Cuddeback encourages us to receive life-giving reproof. "Perhaps the voice offering reproof to me is more wise than I know; or maybe this voice is but an instrument of a yet wiser voice behind it."
God bless you all this week! - Meaghen Gonzalez

A controversy was sparked immediately after the publication of the book entitled Theological Ethics of Life: Scripture, Tradition, Practical Challenges. Among other subjects, it considers the use of "unnatural contraceptive methods in specific circumstances, in which it would be irresponsible to have children." |

Best for Children |
American College of Pediatricians |
In addition to our commitment as health care professionals to "first, do no harm," the American College of Pediatricians has also committed ourselves specifically to "what's best for children." The proposed rule on Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would threaten both of these deeply-held commitments. |
