Note from the Assistant Managing Editor:
We begin this week with a reflection from Benedict XVI on the call of God to "Keep my commandments." It's not just about following a set of rules: it's about love. "Love for Christ expresses itself in the will to harmonize our own life with the thoughts and sentiments of his Heart."
My favorite piece this week is "The Romance of Ordinary Marriage." Your spouse is your greatest adventure.
"Most people who want Catholicism at all, want it straight up," writes David Warren. And he describes how Cardinal Sarah did just that in his "Talk about silence" at St. Augustine's Seminary in Toronto.
Fr. Raymond de Souza reports on another talk, this one given by Jordan Peterson at Queen's University in Toronto. There the sideshow — protestors — were given more media attention than the lecture itself. Fr. de Souza starts to correct that by paying more attention "to the arguments he is making, how he makes them, and why they resonate so widely." See "The Peterson Protests."
Finally, the beautiful and inspiring story of "Servant of God Adele Dirsyte." She was "modest and very quiet" and yet within her "burned the heart of a martyr, a queen, a saint."
There's only two weeks left of Lent. Let's live them courageously — and generously! Please take a moment to donate by clicking here. - Meaghen Hale |

The Romance of Ordinary Marriage - Nathanael Blake - Public Discourse
It is fashionable to mock as bland and boring the ordinary men and women living out their married lives together, but they are often engaged in a quest far more challenging and romantic than anything the bohemian libertine will attempt.

A Case for Priestly Celibacy - Word on Fire
Celibacy is finally inexplicable, unnatural, and fascinating, for it is a form of life adopted by people in love with Jesus Christ.
An Open Letter to Pro-Life Sidewalk Witnesses - First Things
This unholy place purports to be a beacon of feminist triumph and community rejuvenation, but behind the scenes, minority women are disproportionately targeted and taught that the brightest future is one without their posterity.
The Abortion Exception - First Things
It's constitutionally appalling that there should be any such exception to the rigorous standards that the Supreme Court has historically applied to government action that stifle First Amendment rights of free speech and expression. Even more appalling is the threat to First Amendment rights in general.

I'm marrying a non-Catholic. What do I need to know? - Aleteia
While the Church acknowledges that the "difference of confession between the spouses does not constitute an insurmountable obstacle for marriage," her pastors counsel nonetheless that "the difficulties of mixed marriages not be underestimated."
Compromise with Islam, Atheism and Secularism is an Illusion - NC Register
Christ's words and ways are foolishness to deaf ears and hardened hearts. When we compromise over and over again with the illusion that those with veiled eyes will finally see the truth, all we accomplish is our own separation from the Cross.
