Note from the Assistant Managing Editor:
Sanctifying grace "is the principle of all merit; every work that does not proceed from it is dead." This week's reflection petitions God to "infuse in our heart a deep hatred of evil that could make us lose it" — "Grace, the Seed of Glory."
Cardinal Gerhard Müller has written an excellent four page "Manifesto of Faith." It was written "with the aim of strengthening the Faith of the brothers and sisters whose belief has been massively questioned by the 'dictatorship of relativism.'"
Then we publish two excerpts from Kendra Tierney's valuable book "The Catholic All Year Compendium: Liturgical Living for Real Life. It's an encyclopedia of ideas for living liturgically at home. And it's a way for all of us to enjoy learning about "the lives of Jesus and the saints, the events of the Bible, and the history and the tradition of Christianity."
Many words and phrases used in the discussion about abortion seek to obscure the reality. "We have shifted our language," writes Charles Camosy, "in ways that hide the dignity of the vulnerable, in the instance of abortion, but also on issues far from the abortion debate. Read his New York Times editorial, "I Am Pro-Life. Don't Call Me Anti-Abortion."
Finally, Ilaria Giudici writes a review of the film "The Old Man and the Gun," starring Robert Redford and Casey Affleck in a story about two men with "a passion for their job and the desire not to waste their lives."

Liturgical Living for Life - Kendra Tierney - chapter one from The Catholic All Year Compendium
"This gem is both deep and wide. It's an encyclopedia of ideas for living liturgically at home. But it's also a personal story of one woman's deep love for the Catholic faith and how she brings it to life for her family." - Elizabeth Foss, Founder, Take Up & Read

Abortion in America Will End Badly, as Slavery Did - The Stream
Cheap sex stands as central to us as cheap labor did to cotton customers. And our disconnect of sex from reproduction has sunk roots at least as deep as Antebellum racism. Neither one will vanish overnight.
Pro-Life in Practice: 20 Active Ways to Help - The Stream
Because we do still see hundreds of thousands of yearly abortions, there is certainly more to be done. Many of us are Christians and part of that duty is inconveniencing ourselves for others and for the sake of the Gospel.
The Church Needs Children - Crisis Magazine
We need to focus on what does differentiate us. It's not just the liturgy, but the teachings of the Church itself. An important part of this differentiation in today's world is the importance of a stable Catholic family that welcomes children.
The Cultural Train Wreck That Is Hollywood - Crisis Magazine
Ours is a tragic age, but based on my cultural observations over the Christmas holidays hardly anyone appears to be taking it tragically. Few seem to be noticing the red tide rising.
