Putting out into the Deep

  • FATHER TADEUSZ DAJCZER

Divine revelation...proclaims God who mercifully watches the "clownery" of our old selves, but who also — sooner or later — will want to show his love.

christbreadThis will lead us to the road to conversion.  We will go through external and internal events that will crush the illusory image of successes that our old selves apparently achieved.

Through inner inspirations, through his continuous showering us with his uncountable graces, through emotional experiences or spiritual dryness, God will want to convince us existentially that we are not, and we cannot be, the masters of our own destinies.  It is he who is the only Kyrios, the only Master.  He will want to convince us that the faith and hope we have in our-selves are as illusory as any other fiction.  They are going to fall apart and he is the one who will mercifully heal our wounds resulting from this process.  He will try to convince us that he loves us more than life — that we are his adopted sons and daughters, who are created out of nothingness.

To the extent to which we are open to his grace, God will lead us to the deep water of truth.  Duc in altum (put out into the deep water) — he will show us the ideal and will want us to convert to it because the ideal is the truth about us being children and about our utter poverty.

Maybe God will show us that there is no sense in our desires to please him.  Although God loves with a love of profound acceptance, the only thing he loves in this way is his own action in human souls.  God only loves what he has created himself, what his divine action is and what is thus worthy of his delight.  On the other hand, everything in human souls that does not belong to him is also embraced by his love.  It is the merciful love, the love of pity and forgiveness, that wants to save and draw close to his merciful heart all that is little, unsuccessful, and miserable.

The Author

daj daj1 Fr. Tadeusz Dajczer (†2009) was ordained to the Priesthood in 1955 in Warsaw, Poland. In the life of Fr. Dajczer, a decisive moment took place during his confession with St. Padre Pio. St. Padre Pio asked his penitent, with astonishment and great force, why he did not want to go toward God to the end. For Fr. Dajczer it was a shocking experience and at the same time, the beginning of a search for sanctity both for himself and for his penitents. He is the author of The Mystery of Faith: Meditations on the Eucharist, and The Gift of Faith, which has been translated into 26 languages. He is the co-founder of the Families of Nazareth Movement, which is currently present in 40 countries.
